Notes on months in French

• All month names are masculine.
  
  
• Month names in French are not capitalized unless they start a sentance.
  
  
• The short form notation for a date is the same as the UK - DD/MM/YYYY.
  
  
• The first of the month, is spoken as Le premier (the first).
  
  
• In long month notation the first of the month is written 1er.
  Example: 01/05/2000 would be written in long form 1er mai 2000 and spoken Le premier mai deux mille.
  
  
• All other dates in both spoken and long notation form have the date as a cardinal number (2, 3, 4 etc) rather than the ordinal numbers (2nd, 3rd, 4th etc) used in english.
  Example: 02/05/2000 would be written in long form 2 mai 2000 and spoken deux mai deux mille.
